Structural Upgrade of the LPG Terminal at Bajo Grande

Zulia State, Venezuela

This terminal was built in 1968 for gas carriers and tankers ranging from 16,000 to 27,000 DWT. The new fleet to be served, ranging from 2,000 to 47,000 DWT requires a major upgrade in the breasting dolphins (flexible steel pile type).

A detailed structural survey was carried out to find out the actual condition of the dolphins and fenders, prior to the development of the required engineering.

Reccomendations were made for allowable berthing velocity and ship's displacement operating under the current conditions.

Conceptual engineering and budgetary cost estimate were developed to improve the terminal structural conditions. Also reccomendations were made to improve handlig capacity of refrigerated gases and gasoline covering mechanical, electric and instumentation matters.

Reccomendations were made for the terminal general upgrade in order to comply with SIGGTO standards.
